Current CPD Accredited Course:
Understanding Neurodiversity and Being Neurodiversity Affirming

We offer full and half day seminars which are suitable for all audiences and settings.
We explore why we need to flip the narrative and move away from the deficit-based pathological approaches which so often frame education, health and social care practice and cause harm.
By adopting neuro-affirming practice we can gain a deeper understanding of peoples needs and validate the voices and experiences of neurodivergent, disabled and other marginalised groups. By embracing neurodiversity and neuro-affirming practice everyone has a chance to be heard and thrive in their own way.
Course Learning Objectives
- To gain an understanding of the neurodiversity paradigm (pathological vs social model of disability) and the harm that ableism causes.
- To have a better understanding of the different types of neurodivergence.
- To gain insight into some of the issues surrounding intersectionality.
- To understand why we need to shift our language and ways of being.
- To understand ways we can embrace neurodiversity and apply different neuro-affirming approaches with young people and their families to support well-being and improve outcomes that benefit everyone.
